Those Air Miles you've saved up are worthless if you hope to fly out of Flin Flon. Since July 22, the Air Miles rewards program no longer redeems points for airfare on Calm Air flights from Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson, Gillam and Churchill. "What really ticks me off about this is they didn't notify anybody," Thompson resident Ann Macdonald told the Winnipeg Free Press. Travelers build up Air Miles by shopping at selected businesses, of which there are apparently two in Flin Flon. The points may transform into substantial savings given that a round trip from Flin Flon to Winnipeg can cost more than $1,000 if not purchased at least two weeks in advance. Bearskin Airlines, which also offers flights out of Flin Flon, accepts points through the Aeroplan program, not Air Miles. A spokesperson for The Loyalty Group, the Toronto company that offers Air Miles, told the Free Press that the company wants to partner with Calm Air before reapplying the program to northern flights. A Calm Air spokesperson responded by telling the newspaper that the company isn't interested in that scenario.1/9/04
