NHR seeks input

Northern Manitobans will get a chance to weigh in on health care priorities with the establishment of new advisory committees.

Effective Sept. 2, Manitoba’s health regions will each be responsible for developing at least four “health involvement groups” with a minimum of 10 members apiece.

“We want to hear from patients and families about ways to address community health issues and develop a stronger health care system,” said Health Minister Erin Selby in a news release.

The province’s Regional Health Authorities Act mandates that health involvement groups “explore and provide advice” to health region boards “on issues that impact the delivery of local health services.”

Group terms can vary in length from one to three years and members can be re-appointed for one or more additional terms.

Groups must meet four times a year and provide reports back to regional board. The findings will be shared annually with the health minister.

The groups replace the advisory councils that had been in place prior to the 2012 regional health authority amalgamations.

Flin Flon area residents wanting to apply or get more information about the health involvement groups can visit www.manitoba.ca/health/lhig or contact the Northern Health Region.
