The Pas • RCMP in The Pas continue to investigate after a body was found. Last Thursday, Aug. 7, police were dispatched to a report of a body located on Martinson Road in The Pas. They recovered the body of an adult male.

• RCMP in The Pas continue to investigate after a body was found. Last Thursday, Aug. 7, police were dispatched to a report of a body located on Martinson Road in The Pas. They recovered the body of an adult male. No further information was available as of press time.

Oxford House

• RCMP in Oxford House are investigating a theft that has temporarily put the reserve’s medical evacuation plane out of service.

On Wednesday morning, police responded to a report of a break and enter at the local medical evacuation airplane hangar. Officers found that emergency bags were stolen and a fire extinguisher had been emptied into the medical evacuation plane.

Due to these actions, the plane is out of service until it can be cleaned and mechanically inspected. The emergency bags that were stolen contained medical items, including medications. If used incorrectly, the medications could result in a health emergency.

Norway House,  Cormorant

• The Manitoba government announced Wednesday it will fund new northern infrastructure projects in Norway House and Cormorant.

In Norway House, the province will spend $981,000 for a snowplow, an expansion of the town maintenance garage, and a heat trace to prevent water and sewer line freezing.

In Cormorant, $475,000 will be spent on water and sewer lines for a new subdivision.

Churchill

• Shipping season is underway at the Port of Churchill as the first vessel of the season began loading wheat destined for Mexico on Aug. 5.

The M.V. Ikan Suji began taking on 35,200 tonnes of wheat from Richardson Pioneer elevators in Manitoba
and northeastern Saskatchewan, Richardson International announced.

“Churchill is an important port for Richardson and we are pleased to have another large shipping program in place for 2014,” said Curt Vossen, president and CEO of Richardson International. “Last year, we extended the shipping season by several weeks loading the last vessel on Nov. 12 and we expect to have another strong season this year.”
