The ways for residents to ring in the new year tonight aren't nearly as abundant as in previous years. Aside from those at the beverage rooms, it appears the only celebration open to the public will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion. Traditionally the largest of the new year's gatherings, the Last Blast New Year's Dance has been canceled due to low ticket sales. The celebration was to be organized by the Flin Flon Bombers hockey club and held at the Creighton Community Hall. Bomber board member Larry Feszczyn said the board is disappointed and surprised over the regretful cancellation. Meanwhile, the Knights of Columbus have canceled their New Year's Eve Celebration, also do to a lack of interest. The celebration was slated for the hall at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Parish. CADAC won't hold their popular First Night Out celebration tonight. The chemical-free event was held in 2002 and only takes place every two years. A celebration that is going ahead is that at the Royal Canadian Legion, but all the approximately 200 tickets are sold out. The fun will include a midnight buffet and live music courtesy of The Rez Boys, a Pelican Narrows band fast making a name for itself in the region. "It should be really good," commented an organizer. Many private functions are sure to take place tonight as well, with families and friends choosing to welcome 2004 in the company of those closest to them. Others not in a partying mood will take the opportunity to spend a relaxing evening at home. However you choose to ring in the new year, the staff at The Reminder wish you all the best over the next 365 days.
