Canada Post connects Canadians with their friends, family and business associates more than 10 billion times a year. New stamps being issued in October will connect Canadians with the characters they seem to like the best ? their pets. Four new stamps celebrating our favourite furry, feathery or scaley companions will be available for sale in post offices across the country on October 1. The stamps provide a window on the scene recreated every day in millions of homes across Canada ? that of children interacting contentedly with their pets. The dog, cats, fish and rabbit pictured are representations of the range of pets who allow us into their lives. Canadians own more than 12 million cats and dogs and one in every six households in Canada has a pet of some kind. Experts have long proclaimed the benefits of pet ownership for children, adults and the elderly. Caring for a pet can be a meaningful and wonderful experience, with pets encouraging their human-friends to engage in laughter, fun and exercise. Even more important, pets provide their humans the experience of a loyal and loving friendship that can last for decades. The stamps were unveiled at the Toronto Humane Society's 15th annual Paws in the Park event yesterday. Supporting these pet stamps, and stamp collecting month, are some fun pet projects including plush toys, playing cards, a letter writing kit and a clock that all star the images of the pets featured on the stamps.
