Vanessa Wintoneak hopes to share with local youth a passion she has had since she was just two years old. The teen will open her own dance school, Dance Fusion, later this month with classes running at the Flin Flon Community Hall. "It's going to be along the same lines as a recreational dance program," said Vanessa. She will accept students aged three and up for her classes, which will focus on different forms of dance, such as jazz and hip hop, as well as specific skills related to the art form. Vanessa mentioned wanting to use a "musical theatre approach" to her instruction. At just 17, Vanessa has already been dancing for more than a decade, and is known and respected in the local dance community. Last year, she served as the full-time choreographer and teacher for the Northern Lights Dance Academy (NLDA). Prior to that, Vanessa was an assistant with the Kelly Waterman School of Dance and a student-teacher with NLDA. She said she was motivated to open her own dance school after being informed that NLDA would not operate this year. "I wanted the dancers to have something to keep them busy, so I took on the job of opening the business," commented Vanessa. Dance Fusion will be a good experience for the Hapnot Collegiate graduate, who hopes to further her dance education in the future. "I still enjoy dancing myself and learning more and more, but being able to teach the kids and show them what I really truly love is the ultimate," she said. "I just really love kids and I think this is my calling in life." The first classes of Dance Fusion will start on September 22. For more information, phone Vanessa at 687-2470.
