Four incumbents, one former councillor and one fresh face make up the new Council of the Northern Village of Denare Beach. Grant Adams, Roland Chretien, Shirley Evans and Karen Thomson were reelected Wednesday and will join former councillor Wayne Elliott and newcomer Douglas Schaff on the Council. Chretien captured the most votes with 147 residents marking his name on their ballots. He was followed by Adams (137), Evans (134), Schaff (127), Thomson (120) and Elliott (115). Todd Tyson, Pat Derbowka and Spencer Martin also ran. The only member of the previous Council who did not seek reelection was Bruce Perkins. Wednesday's election brought out 209 voters in the community of about 800 people. The poll at the administrative building was open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The councillors were elected to three-year terms. Mayor Carl Lentowicz has already been acclaimed to a third straight term, as he was the only candidate running for the position. "Basically it's same as any volunteer position, really," the mayor since 1997 told The Reminder last month. "You get involved and you participate. You hope you make a difference. I'm prepared to serve the next three years and there are still some challenges there."
