The Flin Flon Fire Department has been granted the authority to respond to blazes outside city limits without first securing special permission. Fire Chief Jim Petrie had been required to obtain the mayor's authorization before sending a crew to fires or other incidents outside municipal boundaries. But that changed Tuesday evening when city council unanimously approved a motion allowing the fire chief to make the call himself. Municipal Administrator Larry Fancy felt the previous system just didn't seem to make sense. "It was very cumbersome," he said.11/6/04
