A 19-year-old man has been arrested after police say he strangled his aunt to death in Pelican Narrows.
John Bob Glen Custer has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Heather Ballantyne, 40.
Last Tuesday, Oct. 29, Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to a call of a woman’s body being located in a wooded area off of a popular trail within the community.
Evidence at the scene showed that Ballantyne had been strangled to death. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was due to ligature strangulation.
Three days later, on Friday, Nov. 1, Custer was arrested. He was scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday.
RCMP would not speak to the accused’s motive.
“At this point in time that would be evidence that we would reveal in a court setting,” said Sgt. Craig Cleary, a spokesperson for the RCMP in Saskatchewan. “We won’t specifically comment on that.”
Pelican Narrows is located 120 road kilometres outside Creighton.
