Sunday evening, February 13th, was a fun and exciting night for a lot of Snow Lake children. Actually, it ended up being quite an enjoyable evening for a number of adults as well. The Anders and Robin Magic and Juggling Show was the purveyor of all the excitement, and what an attraction their show turned out to be for the 125 plus adults and children in the audience at the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall. There were some magic tricks that defied explanation, such as the watch that was taken off of a randomly picked audience member's wrist, only to end up in a locked box that sat on the stage throughout the performance.Ê As well there was some expert juggling; in one case five flaming torches; in another, a ten pin bowling ball, a cabbage and a hunting knife. In addition, the performer's wit was as sharp as the aforementioned knife. There were a number of audience members who were incorporated into the program and this only reinforced the point that seats close to the stage are not always the best ones when it comes to a magic show. The two performers brought a bit of a surprise into Snow Lake with them. Tagging along on the trip was The Pas' 16 year-old juggling phenom, Solomon Berg. He was introduced part way through the show and it was explained that many of the teen's skills were picked up from the Internet and perfected in his own backyard. With his obvious talent and significant ability, some day soon he will undoubtedly have his own traveling show. Prior to the show and as part of the evening out, 50 or so people took part in a community 'Pot Luck' supper that was as delicious as it was all encompassing. Four community groups pooled their considerable talents in putting together this four-hour outing, and at the show's conclusion the applause was as much for their efforts as it was for Anders, Robin and Jason. Hats off to the Snow Lake Health Auxiliary, Aurora Borealis Arts Council, Snow Lake Healthy Communities and the Town of Snow Lake Recreation Department for juggling up this magical evening for the community. Moving over to the school, students and teachers got together in the gymnasium on the morning of February 14, in order to celebrate the 100th day of classes. Vice Principal Lynore Spruyt explained that children in younger grades took part in a number of activities, participating in each for 100 seconds. In addition to step-ups, reading, skipping, dancing and basketball, the kids took part in something called "Kissy Lips". "They put on lipstick and counted how many lip marks (on paper) they could make in 100 seconds," said Spruyt.Ê This of course brought forward the Valentines Day theme as well as the 100th dayÉ in addition to a serious amount of laughter from all who were involved or watched. Spruyt also noted that the student council was baking cakes, which would be taken around to classes and consumed in celebration of the 100th day milestone.
