The RCMP Musical Ride held in Flin Flon this past summer was not only an enjoyable event for the 3,500 people who attended, but was also was a successful fundraiser for youth-oriented projects in the local area. Some of the volunteers who helped bring the Musical Ride to Foster Park on August 3 gathered together yesterday at the Flin Flon RCMP Detachment to distribute funds to worthwhile youth ventures. Donations ranging between $500 to $3,000 were made to help with the Creighton Skateboard Park, the Rotary Park in the uptown Flin Flon area, and a multi-use outdoor facility that is being planned for Flin Flon. Also, a 35" TV with a PlayStation 2 was donated to the Youth Centre and donations will be made towards the Muscular Dystrophy Society as well as the D.A.R.E. progam. Cpl. Leslie Beck of the Flin Flon RCMP Detachment made several presentations during a brief ceremony held at the detachment office. "No project in our area can be held successfully without the help of many people, and this includes the RCMP Musical Ride," mentioned Cpl. Beck. "As a result of everybody's efforts, the youth of our community will benefit." Beck also noted how the area businesses that had partnered together with the Musical Ride to make sure the expenses were paid, had been contacted with the good news that there would be a surplus after the event was held. They were informed that their financial support could be refunded to them. "Every single business told us to keep what they had donated towards the event, as long as they could help the youth with their projects," noted Cpl. Beck.
