Jonathon Naylor Editor Samuel Dufour-Jarvis' heart is as big as his love for music. The 18-year-old Big Island resident recently organized a coffee house in support of the Lord's Bounty Food Bank. 'It just seemed like a good idea,' says Dufour-Jarvis, whose event raised $306. 'I wanted a place for people to come and play music, and why not send all proceeds to something that matters?' About 65 people attended the Jan. 27 coffee house at the Northminster Memorial United Church. Joining Dufour-Jarvis on the roster of local performers were Braden Buhler, Kevin Imrie, Doug McGregor and Anne Ross, and Imrie-Anna-Jones, consisting of Kristen Imrie, Anna Jardine and Kim Jones. 'A blast' 'It was a blast,' says the teen organizer. There was no admission to attend, as all funds were donated to a silver collection. Dufour-Jarvis, who graduated from Hapnot Collegiate last year, wanted to hold a charitable coffee house before he heads off for university this fall. He chose the food bank as the beneficiary because he had heard of its struggles following the closure of Extra Foods, which had been a major donor. Dufour-Jarvis hopes to study musical education at Brandon University.
