The Thompson Chamber of Commerce hopes a giant wildlife mural will help bring more tourists to the northern mining community. The mural will take up an entire side of the Highland Towers apartment building and be inspired by the work of popular wildlife artist Scott Bateman. Bateman will not paint the mural himself, but has donated permission for Thompson to replicate one of his wolf drawings. Plans are underway for the mural, which would be the largest Bateman mural in the world, to be completed by next year. The mural would be part of a larger project to develop 18 points of interest throughout the city by 2007. Other points of interest being investigated include a large rock sculpture and a school of aboriginal art.
