In recent months, there has been a lot of talk about how Canada is a “rule of law “ country. The Liberal government had used this phrase many times in reference to comparing us to other countries.

We are now learning that the reality for this government is that they see two sets of laws – one for rich and powerful corporations and one for the rest of us.

That is the obvious conclusion of allegations that the Prime Minister’s Office pressured former justice minister and attorney general, Jody Wilson-Raybould, into dropping charges against the multi-billion dollar corporation SNC-Lavalin.

The facts are clear. Within months, Wilson-Raybould was removed from her position as attorney general and later quit cabinet.

A well respected minister and Indigenous leader, Wilson-Raybould has received support from Canadians across the country.

We need to get to the truth and hear from those involved, but the Liberal government has been shutting down our attempts and changing their story every day. We need an independent public inquiry into this corporate prosecution scandal, because Canadians deserve to know if their government is working for them or for a massive corporation with deep ties to the Liberal Party.

Jody Wilson-Raybould deserved better. Canadians deserve better.

As an MP, I will be calling for accountability and an end to putting rich, well-connected corporations ahead of the people of this country.
