Churchill River Member of Parliament Jeremy Harrison met Friday with Premier Calvert, Finance Minister Harry Van Mulligan, Saskatchewan Party Leader Brad Wall, SK Liberal Leader David Karwacki, and six other Saskatchewan Conservative MPs to discuss putting forward a united front to push for a fair equalization deal for the province. "The meeting was very productive," said Harrison, "We're all on the same page, asking the federal government to treat Saskatchewan on a level playing field with other provinces like Newfoundland and Nova Scotia." The political leaders focused particularly on removing natural non-renewable resources from the complex formula Ð an identical provision to that included in the recently signed Atlantic Accord between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and the federal government. "A change to the formula of this nature would mean nearly one billion dollars per year that would stay in Saskatchewan. The current formula sees nearly 100% of our natural non-renewable resource revenue clawed back by the federal government," explained Harrison. See 'Deal' P.# Con't from P.# Harrison, Calvert, and the other political leaders have requested a meeting with Prime Minister Paul Martin to further discuss the problem. "Saskatchewan is not being treated fairly," said Harrison. "Every elected politician in Saskatchewan Ñ aside from Liberal Minister Ralph Goodale Ñ is calling for a fair deal. Saskatchewan deserves better than Liberal neglect."
