Cross Lake RCMP, the North District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and RCMP Traffic Services officers teamed up during the recent Cross Lake Trappers Festival to deter crime. Between Feb. 28 and March 3, patrols checked 150 vehicles on Highway 6, PTH 39, PR 373 and 374. The objective was to increase police visibility with the intent of reducing alcohol-related offenses. Three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act seizures were made, resulting in one charge; one warrant for arrest was executed on outstanding drug charges; and 30 Liquor Control Act tickets were issued, resulting in 70 cases of 24 beers and three 24 oz. bottles of liquor being seized. A total of three Criminal Code charges were laid; one disqualified driver under the Criminal Code, one failure to provide a breath Sample, and one breach of undertaking. Highway Traffic Act charges were laid in numbers, with 23 speeding tickets handed out, as well as 11 seat belt tickets, three suspended drivers, and 24 other miscellaneous Highway Traffic Act charges. The RCMP issued two Off-Road Vehicle Act charges and two warning tickets as well. _ Matt Durnan, Thompson Citizen
