If there was ever any doubt about the demand for a new subdivision at Denare BeachÕs Mosher Lake, it can be put to rest. Nine of the 16 lakeside lots have been eagerly gobbled up by area residents and summer visitors alike since coming on the market in 2005. ÒThereÕs a good demand for lakeview lots,Ó said Mayor Carl Lentowicz in a previous interview. Four new homes have so far been built at the subdivision at a substantial investment. The lots alone range from $28,700 to $41,500 apiece. Some buyers have been joining with friends to purchase three lots, with each agreeing to occupy half the space. For some, the subdivision, down Mosher Drive off of Mosher Road, will be a year-round home. Others will spend only the summers before fleeing for warmer pastures come winter. ÒWe just wanted to be lakefront, eventually,Ó said one future resident. But will the success of the subdivision continue? Will there be any problem selling the remaining seven properties? ÒFrom what IÕm hearing, I donÕt think (there) will (be),Ó says the future resident. Of course Denare Beach isnÕt alone in seeing new cottage lots open up in recent years. The Manitoba government has offered 1,000 new lots to Manitobans, many of which are in the Flin Flon-Cranberry Portage region. The Manitoba lots have been a cause for concern for municipalities, including Flin Flon, who fear a continued erosion of their tax base as people make their full-time home outside town limits.
