The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), recently announced the reappointment of Mr. John Walter as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). 'I am very pleased to announce the reappointment of Mr. Walter as CEO of the Standards Council,' said Minister Moore. 'Mr. Walter's vision and vast experience in Canada's standardization system will continue to be of great value in advancing the Council's work.' Prior to joining the SCC, Mr. Walter held numerous leadership positions, serving as Vice-President of Standards Development for the Canadian Standards Association and as President and CEO of the Technical Standards & Safety Authority. He was also Assistant Deputy Minister, Technical Standards Division, for Ontario's Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations. Mr. Walter is involved in international and regional standardization organizations to help Canada influence the development and use of standards that enhance our economic competitiveness and social well-being. He is Canada's representative to the International Organization for Standardization's Technical Management Board, an Executive Committee member of the Pacific Area Standards Congress, and a Board member of the Pan American Standards Commission. Mr. Walter was recently awarded the Leo B. Moore Award by the Society for Standards Professionals for his high achievement, extraordinary contribution and distinguished service in the field of standardization.
