Saskatchewan residents have until October 18th to nominate individuals for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. This medal recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement. "Saskatchewan people have a history of cooperation and generosity that helped build this province," Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock said. "There is no aspect of life in Saskatchewan that has not been enriched by the tireless efforts of our volunteers. The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal is fitting recognition for those who have given so freely of their time and talents." Any Canadian citizen who is a current or former long-term resident of Saskatchewan is eligible for nomination. The only exceptions are presently serving members of Parliament or the Legislature and members of the judiciary. Groups or organizations cannot be nominated. Posthumous nominations are not accepted. People may call toll-free 1-877-427-5505 for information and nomination forms or go to the web site at www.gr.gov.sk.ca/protocol. Since its inception in 1995, 84 recipients have received the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.2/9/05
