Flin Flon has one of the most active mining industries in all of Canada, it’s one of the best places to live in Canada and it’s a wonderful tourist destination.
That’s why we need first-rate highways, and that’s why our NDP government is upgrading Highway 10.
These upgrades are absolutely necessary for safe travel to and from Flin Flon, and they’re going to benefit everyone: Flin Flon, surrounding municipalities and Manitoba.
Here’s an overview of what we’ve done: our government has been upgrading and resurfacing the 20-km stretch of highway between Flin Flon and Bakers Narrows. We’ve widened roads, introduced new turning lanes and blasted away rock ridges to improve visibility. We’ve also improved causeways and added guardrails, all while preparing road surfaces for better paving.
When it’s all done, everyday motorists will have a smoother, safer, more comfortable ride, whether they’re taking their kids to a hockey game in a neighbouring community, or going fishing at Bakers Narrows.
It doesn’t end there, though, because this highway means so much more for Flin Flon and the surrounding area. Every day there are going to be 50 to 60 ore trucks travelling Highway 10 from the Lalor and Reed mines, fueling our northern economy and creating jobs.
If we failed to complete these upgrades, our highways would be ill-suited to the industrial traffic driving our economy. Heavy trucks, laden with valuable minerals, would chew up roads that weren’t designed to handle them. Driving conditions would be terrible for everyone.
Highway 10 is Flin Flon’s lifeline to the rest of the province. That’s why government investments in core infrastructure across the province include Flin Flon.
Manitoba is the heart of the continent and our highways are like arteries: when our highways are in good condition, our riches flow out and the world’s wealth flows in.
Families can travel and explore, tourists can come and enjoy, and business can grow and prosper.
