Jonathon Naylor Editor Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen is hinting that the provincial government is ready to make a welcome announcement on highway bussing. His government has faced much criticism since ending a subsidy to Greyhound that guaranteed the carrier would maintain its traditional routes across northern and southern Manitoba. 'We need better bus service, there's no question about that,' Pettersen told The Reminder early last week. 'And hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll hear something from the government.' Pettersen said individuals in some northern communities are establishing a transportation service. 'Different ways' 'So there's little entrepreneurs that are looking at different ways of maybe getting involved in this, but we're also looking at maybe a bigger bus company looking at the whole thing,' he said. 'So that's ongoing and I wish I could tell you more (about) what's going on there.' The NDP government's decision to end the Greyhound subsidy left Flin Flon with only one daily bus trip _ overnight _ to Winnipeg. It also saw Greyhound eliminate its Flin Flon-Snow Lake-Thompson run. Mayor George Fontaine right down to ordinary travellers have decried the reductions in what they see as a vital service for northern Manitoba.
