The Flin Flon School Division’s special education department was reviewed by the Ministry of Education earlier this month.
“We had two ladies come up from the department of education to look at programming, behaviour, attendance, and protocols,” said assistant superintendent Tammy Ballantyne.
Ballantyne said the representatives spent time at each school over the course of the day, giving the division a chance to highlight some of the things that are going well with the program.
“We took them to the hockey academy…and to the Adapt to Swim program, which is a unique program for Flin Flon.”
Conference
The Flin Flon School division took a team of teachers to present at the final Manitoba Education Resource Network conference in The Pas.
“Our tech team gave presentations on critical thinking in a Google environment and we very nearly lost them to other school divisions and universities. People were very impressed,” said superintendent Constance McLeese.
Teachers from the team also presented the division’s reconciliation circles and French Immersion distance program.
Resignation
The board accepted the resignation of former trustee Andy Burbidge during its March 13 meeting.
Board chair Amy Sapergia Green thanked Burbidge for his service.
“I’m going to miss his calm, student-centred approach and his ability to break a problem into manageable pieces, and I wish him all the best,” said Sapergia Green.
