A significant mining milestone took place in the Northern Manitoba community of Wabowden last week when Dumas Contracting Ltd. drilled and blasted their way through 2,242 metres of rock to connect up with Crowflight Minerals' Bucko Lake Mine shaft. "The ramp connection has been designed to develop access to new areas for mining and allow for the use of large 40-tonne class trucks to haul ore directly from the stoping levels to surface," said Bob Forsyth, Safety And Training Coordinator for Dumas. "The trucking via the ramp is important to allow for efficient mining cycle time as well as the continuous transport of ore to surface from a number of operating levels." The Bucko Lake shaft was originally sunk in the early 1970s. Dumas / Crowflight de-watered and then started development from the shaft side into the ore, then later in the year began the ramp access from surface down to join up with the shaft. Dumas is the contractor on site at Crowflight's Bucko Lake Mine.
