Minimum wage raises for workers

Minimum-wage earners in Manitoba and Saskatchewan got a raise Thursday. The minimum wage increased to $11 an hour in Manitoba and $10.50 in Saskatchewan.

“Helping to put more money in the pockets of workers helps to keep our economy prosperous, so families can continue to build futures right here in Manitoba,” Labour and Immigration Minister Erna Braun said.

Manitoba’s minimum wage had been $10.70 an hour. The new rate of $11 Canada’s fourth-highest minimum wage.

In Saskatchewan, the minimum wage rose from $10.20 to $10.50.

“This increase reflects the growing economy and will benefit our province’s minimum wage earners,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said.

There are about 23,800 minimum-wage earners in Saskatchewan, according to the province.
