Minimum-wage earners in Manitoba and Saskatchewan just got a raise.
Manitoba’s minimum wage increased by 25 cents to $10.70 an hour effective Tuesday. That was the same day Saskatchewan’s minimum wage rose by
20 cents to $10.20.
This marks the 14th straight year that Manitoba’s minimum wage has increased.
Earlier this year, the Saskatchewan government passed regulations to index the minimum wage. The indexation formula will be calculated using changes in the Consumer Price Index and the average hourly wage in Saskatchewan for the previous year.
Don Morgan, Saskatchewan’s labour relations and workplace safety minister, said minimum-wage increases improve the standard of living for youth, students and other minimum-wage earners.
Changes to Saskatchewan’s minimum wage must be announced on or before June 30 of each year and take effect Oct. 1 of the same year to give business owners the chance to plan for the change.
