Midday Flin Flon-Winnipeg, Flin Flon-Thompson flights end July 1: Calm Air

Slow demand has prompted Calm Air to ground midday flights between Flin Flon and Winnipeg.

Slow demand has prompted Calm Air to ground midday flights between Flin Flon and Winnipeg.

Effective Friday, the airline will no longer offer 11 am flights from Flin Flon and Thompson to Winnipeg or 2:15 pm flights from Winnipeg to Flin Flon and Thompson. The flights had taken place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“We’ve been evaluating all aspects of our business and looking to match demand with our capacity,” said Monique Chenier, vice-president of marketing for Calm Air. “We found those flights just weren’t being used.”

Chenier said consultation with the community determined that the existing morning and evening flights remained preferable because they allowed travelers to spend a full day in Winnipeg or Flin Flon.

Also effective Friday, Calm Air will cancel Tuesday and Thursday midday flights from Thompson and The Pas to Winnipeg, and back.

The changes mean there is no longer a direct scheduled flight between Flin Flon and Thompson. Chenier said there proved to be little demand for this route.

Travellers planning to fly between the two northern cities will have to land in Winnipeg first and then catch a separate flight to either Flin Flon or Thompson.

Chenier said Calm Air will continue to monitor its business and would be thrilled to revive the midday flights if demand warrants.

Calm Air is not planning any other changes, she said.
