The Women’s Resource Centre and Safe Haven voted to open up their board during their recent annual general meeting.
One key change to the group’s constitution approved at the meeting will allow anyone over the age of 18 to serve as a full-fledged member of the centre’s board.
The change allows men to sit on the group’s executive board as voting members. Two men, Flin Flon Fire Department chief Chad Cooper and Flin Flon RCMP Sgt. Mark Svaren, were both named to one-year terms on the centre’s board after the resolution passed.
Board hopefuls of any gender under the age of 18 will not be eligible, but can join as associate members.
The centre will also be holding its annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event during this year’s Trout Festival. However, there will be some changes in store for participants.
This year, men hoping to participate will not do the now-traditional march down Main Street in red stiletto heels. Instead, the men will join the centre’s float in the Canada Day parade, with the option to walk in the heels, ride on the float or switch between both.
Participants will still accept pledges and donations toward the centre and Safe Haven.
