The band in Pukatawagan has barred two residents from returning to the community due to their role in the death of a resident of the reservation. The men were recently released from prison, having been charged with aggravated assault endangering a life in the Feb. 2003 beating death of Leo Bighetty. "The concern that I had was for their safety, really," Chief Pascal Bighetty told CBC. "This is why I conferred with the elders and I've spoken to just about all of the elders, and they feel that allowing them to the community would mean a lot more hardship for the community." Bighetty added that he feels the courts have failed Pukatawagan. Pukatawagan is a remote reservation 120 kilometres north of Flin Flon.
