Residents and staff of the Northern Lights Manor will join family and friends today in raising money for the Manitoba Alzheimer's Society. Starting at 3 p.m. at the Manor, participants in the "Memory Walk" will begin walking around the neighbourhood to raise money. The fundraiser will run until 4:30. The public is welcome to stop by for the walk or to pledge money toward the cause. Donations may also be made at the Manor during business hours of any week day. All proceeds will be donated to the Manitoba Alzheimer's Society on behalf of the Northern Lights Manor. Those most at risk for Alzheimer's disease are the elderly. With advancing age, their risk of developing the disease increases to 47 per cent by the age of 85. Family history also plays a role, with 54 per cent of those age 80 and over developing Alzheimer's if both parents had the disease.11/6/04
