Over 40 candles lit up the night Dec. 16 as the Flin Flon/Creighton and Area SPCA held their memorial ceremony to remember the furry friends that passed.
A new candle was placed in the middle of the circle for this year’s ceremony. Surrounded by the names of the pets who died was a candle lit in memory of Debbie Ramsay, who passed away last year.
“This place wouldn't be here if it was not for her and a small group of people,” SPCA president Erica Husberg said.
“Every year, we will put out a candle in memory of Debbie. She's never forgotten.”
Father Paul Bringleson led a prayer after the candles were lit.
“The purpose of love is to change us in some way,” he said.
“We’re not the same people after we have met those who loved us and those who have changed our hearts by their willingness to love us. Animals are the most unbiased love that we have ever encountered.”
Bringleson said all those who died were in a happy place.
“We give thanks... for the gifts of our little fur babies who have touched and loved in our lives,” he said.
“We ask God to continue to allow them free rein, lots of roaming in their eternal place and may they be remembered with joy and thanksgiving.”
The SPCA is continuing fundraising efforts through December and January. Dec. 30 is the draw date for their spirit raffle. In January, they will be selling pizzas to raise funds.
