The future of the Flin Flon region was in focus last week, as representatives from local municipalities, industry groups, major employers, community service organizations and educational institutions gathered together at an annual networking event.
On Thursday, May 19, Community Futures Greenstone hosted a joint council meeting at the legion hall in Cranberry Portage, with 40 people representing 22 communities and organizations attending.
“The meeting included some networking and a round table for each attendee to provide an update on what is happening in their community or organization,” wrote Becky Cianflone, general manager at CF Greenstone, in a report on the event.
“There was much discussion about matching training opportunities in the region with employer needs. Another common topic was regarding aging recreational facilities in our communities and how we can get much needed infrastructure support for those.”
Cianflone added that economic development was a frequent theme in conversations throughout the evening.
“What was most encouraging was the positive nature of the discussion, and the willingness of all representatives to work collaboratively around common challenges and opportunities,” she wrote.
