Judges in this year's Queen Mermaid pageant have a difficult task in front of them. They'll have to choose just two of eight worthy contestants Ð a Queen Mermaid and First Princess Ð to carry on the decades old Flin Flon tradition. Here are brief biographies the girls provided to The Reminder. * * * Dawn Dean Hi, my name is Dawn Dean and my sponsor is Your Dollar Store With More. I am 16 years old. I was born in The Pas and was raised in Flin Flon and Creighton since I was four. I have many different hobbies and interests such as woodworking, cooking, camping, walking and much more. I love to be around different people and learn new things. I also love animals. I joined the Queen Mermaid pageant to meet new people and to get involved in the community. * * * Carmen Harrower Hello. My name is Carmen Harrower and I'm Miss Nu-U Hair Care. I'm 16 years old and in grade 11. I'm born and raised in Flin Flon. I enjoy swimming, skating and reading. After high school, I hope to go to McGill University and study in the medical field. This pageant will give me a chance to be involved in the community and give back for everything it has done for me. It also gives me a chance to meet and interact with new people. I've watched the pageant for years and have always dreamed of being crowned. * * * Bailey Lambert Hello, my name is Bailey Lambert and I am sponsored by the North of 53 Consumers Co-op. I am 16 years old and in grade 10. I am attending Hapnot Collegiate. I love to dance. I hoop dance and on my own time, I dance to hip hop music. I love animals and plan on being a veterinarian. I plan on getting a degree in biology and then pursuing my veterinarian degree. * * * Sarah Lawrence My name is Sarah Lawrence and I am sponsored by the Flin Flon Motorcycle Association. I'm 17 years old and am currently attending grade 11 at Hapnot Collegiate. I play on volleyball and basketball teams at school, and enjoy going to the Aqua Centre weight room. I'm hoping to learn more about our community through the pageant this year, and hope the community learns more about my generation. * * * Jackie MacDonald Hi! I'm Jackie MacDonald, Miss Denare Beach. Currently I am attending Hapnot Collegiate Institute, finishing my grade 11. I am 16 years old and some of my favourite things to do include swimming, wakeboarding and being out on the lake. The reason why I entered the Queen Mermaid pageant was that I thought it was a great experience for someone like me to come across, meet new people and a great chance to get out and be involved with the community and Trout Festival. * * * Kathlyn Pawliuk Hello, my name is Kathlyn Pawliuk. I am 17 years old, in grade 11 and attend Hapnot Collegiate. My sponsor is Dembinsky's. I like participating in sports for my health and fitness. I entered the Queen Mermaid pageant this year because I hope to learn more about the community and this is a great way to get involved with the Trout Festival and with the community. I hope to have a lifetime of memories about being in the Queen Mermaid pageant. * * * Brittany Slugoski Hi, my name is Brittany Slugoski and I am sponsored by Northland Ford. I have a variety of interests, such as art, science and sports. In my free time, I love spending time with family and friends. I hope that as a Queen Mermaid contestant I can learn more about our community and gain confidence in public speaking. * * * Amanda Wiebe My name is Amanda Wiebe. I am sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #73. I am 16 years old. I attend Hapnot Collegiate and I am in grade 9. I love to play sports such as hockey, baseball and basketball. I joined the Queen Mermaid pageant to have fun, to get to know the community and to meet new people. I would like to thank my sponsor and family for all their support. * * *
