A Flin Flon paramedic has been honoured for 20 years of life-saving service.
Lori-Lynn Bilitski was in Winnipeg last weekend to accept the Governor General Exemplary Service Medal.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Victoria Inn in Winnipeg, an awards gala was held during the annual InterAct conference, Manitoba’s Emergency Medical Services conference.
The Honorable Shelly Glover, MP, presented the Governor General Exemplary Service Medals to six paramedics.
This medal recognizes those persons in high-risk professions who have dedicated themselves to preserving Canada’s public safety through long and outstanding service.
The awards are national in scope and are part of the Canadian Honours system. The Exemplary Service medals are administered by the Chancellery of Honours, a branch of the office of Secretary to the Governor General.
These recipients must have a minimum of 20 years in the EMS profession, with at least 10 years of those providing direct patient care.
The medal is awarded to an individual who has performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.
Among the recipients was Bilitski.
She started her career in 1993; she progressed from First Responder, EMT, PCP, ICP and Supervisor. She is now the Superintendent overseeing Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage and Snow Lake ambulance Services.
Her entire career has been in “at risk” level, providing field care.
Bilitski became an Emergency Services Instructor, and has taught many new EMS recruits.
She became a CPR Instructor, promotes EMS to other Emergency Services, community events, and school tours.
She was a major advocate in starting the successful PARTY program, showcasing the effects of drinking and driving to students.
