The Manitoba legislature will reopen March 7 with the introduction of the 2005 budget on March 8, Finance Minister Greg Selinger announced yesterday. "The government remains committed to building a strong and prosperous province by investing in Manitobans' key priorities and by following a balanced approach," said Selinger. "We will continue to balance the budget, provide support to important social programs such as health and education and reduce Manitobans' taxes." The minister also noted that a general special warrant of $176 million has been approved. The warrant primarily provides for the additional expenditures identified in December's second quarter financial report. A report on the province's third quarter results will be provided in early March. Manitoba remains on track for a balanced budget with no draw from the Fiscal Stabilization Fund, Selinger said. The house is in the third session of the 38th legislature. The 57-seat assembly consists of 35 NDP members, 20 Progressive Conservatives and two Liberals.
