Mayor George Fontaine offers the following message to mark Royal Weekend in Flin Flon: Wow! What a weekend! As mayor and on behalf of the City of Flin Flon, I am extremely pleased to welcome our honoured participants for the Queen's Jubilee celebration. This will be an extremely busy weekend with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet appearing for the first time in over 50 years. We are pleased to welcome Premier Greg Selinger, as well as Ed and Lily Schreyer. The Provincial Mine Rescue Competition and motorcycle relay will be held as well and will add to the excitement. Thank you to the Jubilee Committee and all volunteers who made this event possible. * * * Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen offers this message: On behalf of the Province of Manitoba, I would like to welcome all visitors who have come to the City of Flin Flon and area to take in the Royal Weekend celebrating the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the 52nd Annual Manitoba Provincial Mine Rescue Competition and the Flin Flon Motorcycle Association's 20th Annual Run to the Border. See 'Hav...' on pg. 6 Continued from pg. 1 Good luck to all the competitors in the Mine Rescue Competition. To all the motorcyclists, have a safe and fun-filled weekend. See you on the road. To all the residents of Flin Flon and area, I hope to see you at some of the various activities, some of which are the reception and/or awards banquet with respect to the Mine Rescue Competition. With respect to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, I hope to see you at Pioneer Square on Saturday afternoon or at the performance of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet on Saturday evening, or possibly I will have a chance of serving you at the High Tea on Sunday afternoon. I would also like to thank all the volunteers for their long hours and hard work, which it takes to put a weekend like this together. Enjoy this fabulous weekend everyone in our beautiful city and area, which is the Jewel of the North! * * * Mayor Fontaine also issued a proclamation in honour of the Royal Weekend. It reads: A Proclamation Diamond Jubilee of the Reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Whereas Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, has been and remains a steady friend, support and inspiration to all the people of Canada, now, as throughout her Reign; And Whereas The Queen this year celebrates the sixtieth year of her Reign and of her service to us as Queen of Canada; And Whereas May 26th and 27th have been set apart in Flin Flon for a community celebration of our Sovereign Lady's Diamond Jubilee; Therefore Know All Persons By These Presents That I, George Fontaine, Mayor of Flin Flon, do hereby declare and make known that May 26th and 27th do constitute Diamond Jubilee Weekend in and for our City; and I urge all citizens to join in happy celebration therein to reflect our congratulations to, pride in and respect for our Liege Lady in and over Canada; and that she may long reign happy and glorious over our land from sea to sea to sea.
