There's nothing like a marching band to add a touch of flavour and excitement to community events. That's why Amy Whitehead hopes to bring new members on board with the Flin Flon Community Marching Band. "It's a musical cheering section, more or less," commented the band director. The band performs at various community events, including Bakers Narrows Day, where they received a warm reception last summer. Whether you play a wind or percussion instrument, Whitehead hopes you'll consider sharing your talents with the band. If you don't own an instrument, the band will look at ways to find one for you to use. If you don't play an instrument, you may lend a hand in other ways, such as carrying auxiliary flags, banners and streamers during marches. The marching band is for anyone in grade 7 or older. Adults are welcome. From the marching band, Whitehead hopes to eventually form a community band, which would perform regular concerts and be aimed at adults. The marching band will meet for the first time this year this Saturday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at the music room of McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac.
