Feb. 13 saw members of the community participate in the 25th Annual Women’s Memorial March.
Flanked by local young women and girls, Alicia Taylor, a counsellor at Flin Flon’s Women’s Resource Centre, addressed those gathered.
“As a community we will walk together on this night to honour all missing or murdered women,” she told the crowd at Pioneer Square. “Together we will march in solidarity for justice for all women who have disappeared into the night. Let’s end the violence against women.”
In -22o weather, the crowd members walked from Pioneer Square to the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre.
At the centre, Taylor, accompanied by young local drummers, demonstrated her hoop dancing skills.
Flin Flon MLA Clarence Pettersen addressed those gathered. He spoke of the importance of working together to address the problem of violence against Aboriginal women, and recognizing the pain felt by families who have lost loved ones to violence.
Following the march, bannock and tea were served.
