The Flin Flon Fire Department responded to seven calls in March, including three structure fires.
On March 4, crews responded to a call of smoke in a residence on Boam Street. Crews found electrical issues and burnt wiring in a furnace.
On March 11, crews responded to a call of a garage fire on Hill Street. Crews found heavy pressurized smoke coming out of the garage. The fire was declared under control 30 minutes after crews arrived on scene, and 50 per cent of the garage was saved. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental due to an industrial electric heater.
On March 14, crews responded to a call of smoke in a residence on Callinan Street. Crews found light smoke in the residence due to faulty wiring in a wall electrical socket. Fire crews made sure the power was disconnected in the unit until an electrician could repair the outlet and wiring.
Two residential fire alarms – one on Boam Street and another on Bay Avenue were also attended in March. Both were the result of a smoke detector being activated from cooking.
The fire department responded to two vehicle accidents during March including a single vehicle rollover on Highway 10 near 777 mine on March 18. Crews found a single vehicle rolled on the shoulder with no occupants inside.
On March 24 crews responded to a single vehicle collision with a light standard at Highway 10 and First Avenue.
Firefighters took part in three fire training sessions in March which included training on door control, fire attack hose deployment, fire apparatus pump operations and friction loss. Ten firefighter level I students have begun practical skills training in preparation for examination at the Brandon Fire College on May 26 and 27.
