Flin Flon City Councillor Nazir Ahmad joined four other area residents in completing the Manitoba Marathon in Winnipeg on Sunday. Ahmad and Kerrilynn Behrman, Ian Cooper, Ken Entwistle, all of Flin Flon, and Nyall Oberg of Denare Beach ran the exhausting 7 1/2-mile course through the Manitoba capital. They were among 869 runners from across North America to cross the finish line of the course, which rises in elevation from 8,200 feet to 10,500 feet. Among the local participants, Behrman finished with the top time of 3:54:03, good for 250th place. She was followed by Oberg with 3:54:44 (255th place); Cooper with 3:58:51 (293rd); Entwistle with 4:34:13 (611th); and Ahmad with 4:46:35 (690th). A handful of other northern communities were represented, including The Pas and Thompson. Three northerners cracked the top 20: Justin Weenusk of Oxford House (fifth place); Tecumteh of Bunibonibee Cree Nation (eighth); and William Trowel of The Pas (20th).
