As a person walks into the gymnasium at Many Faces Educational Centre, you are amazed at the artistic ability of the students who attend this school. There was a pottery display, several pencil sketches and painted wall murals. Yesterday morning, the school held their Undergraduate Awards ceremony, presided over by principal Jane Dupre for her last time. Jane began the ceremonies by introducing all the staff to the people in attendance (the auditorium was full). Then she gave an award to a parent, Leigh-Ann Trudeau, who has been the Parent Council representative for three years and who will be leaving the school now that her daughter is graduating. Attendance awards were given out to 24 students, which is up from about nine students last year. The Bronze Awards were presented next. Many of these students also hold down full time jobs or are single parents. To earn a Bronze Award the student must have completed four or five credits in the past year. The recipients were: Tyler Abrahamson, Curly Arlein, Shyla Asmus, Cory Blue, Lori Booker, Victoria Bouvier, Chris Breton, Mary Ann Castel, Russell Castel, Samantha Church, Amanda Costello, Robyn Davis, Gerry DeGelder, Brent Fox, Courtney Gieg, Bonnie Halcrow, Melissa Harrower, Tricia Hornyak, Joseph Hermann-Garay, Philomene Lapensee, Aaron Lethbridge, Carolynne Mason, Scott Reeves, Alex Stuparyk and Amanda Willey. The winners of two trips to outdoor adventures (only 40 were selected in Manitoba) went to Jeremy Coutts Bouvier who will be going to the RCMP Training Camp, and to Skyler Bighetty who will be going to a Whiteshell Outdoor Experience Camp. Principal Jane Dupre, in her farewell speech, was very emotional about leaving the school where she has been principal for the past five years. She thanked the students and staff for their support and encouragement for the past few years. She wanted the general public to also be aware that the Flin Flon Lions Club phoned and offered to help finance the making of the school's yearbook, thus only costing the students a loonie to purchase it. The response that Jane received yesterday from students and staff alike indicated just how much she is respected as a teacher and person. She will be missed at the school but will still be offering her expertise in the community as she is taking a position as vice-principal at Creighton Community School. Assistant Superintendent Dean Grove spoke on Jane's ability to be able to read people and their needs. "Jane is one of only a few people who can tell a person what they can do as opposed to what they can't!" he said. The Undergraduate Awards ceremony concluded with the teachers and staff singing a song to the students, accompanied by Clarence on guitar!
