COVID-19 case counts in Manitoba took a big drop Tuesday, with 155 new cases and nearly 1,500 new confirmed recoveries.

The province's active case numbers tumbled from 5,736 people Monday to 4,382 Tuesday as a wave of recovered cases came in from across the province. The number of people in Manitoba who have had COVID-19 and recovered is now 18,208 - in total, 1,491 more people than reported Monday.

Of the province's 155 new cases, 27 were located in the Northern Health Region. Another 26 recoveries were reported in the region and one case previously reported within the NHR was moved, keeping the region at 897 active cases.

Districts with the highest case numbers remain the Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake district (282 active cases), the Island Lake district (234 active cases) and the Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/Gods River/Gods Lake district (160 active cases, including 16 new cases Tuesday).

There are 86 cases still active in The Pas/OCN/Kelsey, with another 62 cases active in the Thompson/Mystery Lake health district. All other districts have fewer than 20 cases, including the Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb district, where five cases are active, and the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, which still has two active cases.

Province-wide, 18 more deaths from COVID-19 were reported, all in southern Manitoba communities. COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of 590 Manitobans. There are now 275 Manitobans in hospital with COVID-19, including 39 people in intensive care.

No new outbreaks or possible public exposures were announced for the north.

Meanwhile, all 1,300 possible vaccination appointments in Manitoba for this week have been booked up. Nearly 300 medical personnel and health workers received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Monday - 1,192 people, all health workers, have received the COVID-19 jab in Manitoba.

Saskatchewan

For the second straight day, Saskatchewan reported more new COVID-19 cases than Manitoba. A total of 181 new COVID-19 cases were reported throughout the province, along with four more deaths from the disease.

Fourteen of the new cases were in the far north east health zone, with six of those cases in the far north east 2 health zone, which includes Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay and other communities near Flin Flon. The zone currently has 61 active cases, according to numbers from the provincial government. The Angelique Canada Health Centre in Pelican Narrows is reporting that only eight active cases remain active in the community. The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) declared an outbreak in Pelican Narrows a month ago Wednesday - the outbreak is still in effect.

The province has 3,945 active cases, with 124 people in hospital with COVID-19, 21 of whom are in intensive care.

Vaccinations have begun in Regina, with 1,519 people having been vaccinated. Vaccinations are set to begin in Saskatoon later this week.
