Manitoba honouring cancer-fighting hero Terry Fox

The Manitoba government this week introduced legislation that would establish two days to honour Terry Fox.

The Manitoba government this week introduced legislation that would establish two days to honour Terry Fox.

The legislation states the first Monday in
August would be Terry Fox Day and the second Sunday in September after Labour Day as Terry Fox Run Day.

Fox was born in Winnipeg and spent the first eight years of his life in Manitoba.

The new legislation, according to Health Minister Sharon Blady, will help to honour Fox and the legacy he left behind.

“This new legislation will ensure his memory and his enduring legacy are never forgotten in our province, and support ongoing cancer awareness and fundraising activities for cancer research carried out in his name,” Blady said.

The proposed legislation is expected to take effect later this year.
