A 25-year-old man has been arrested and is facing second-degree murder charges after the death of a 10-month-old baby in Flin Flon last summer.
Manitoba RCMP announced the arrest March 25, saying 25-year-old Robert Alexander Bear, originally from Sandy Bay, was facing a charge of second-degree murder. According to RCMP, Bear was arrested March 23.
On August 11, Flin Flon RCMP received a report of an infant in distress. Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, where they found an injured and unresponsive 10-month-old female who was pronounced dead. In January, RCMP received information that indicated that the infant's injuries were, in the words of a Manitoba RCMP news release, "not accidental". After receiving the information, RCMP considered the matter a homicide.
Bear has not yet appeared in court to face the charges. Bear was arrested at his home in Saskatchewan and arrangements are currently underway to bring him to Manitoba for a court appearance.
Flin Flon RCMP is investigating the incident, along with Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services.
