Jonathon Naylor Editor Joe Morin wants to see an end to all gender violence. That's why the concerned Flin Flonner is taking part in Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, a first-time awareness event taking place Friday. 'I've seen some of the women that go through hard times...and I feel sorry for them,' says Morin. As of Monday, Morin had in only a few days raised nearly $600 in pledges for the walk. The event will require him and the other men participating to walk a few blocks in four-inch high heels made especially for guys. Morin looks forward to the walk, but how will he manage in those shoes??? 'I don't know, that's a good question,' he says with a laugh. Originally from Sandy Bay, Sask., Morin says he is grateful for all of the pledges he has collected. He now encourages residents to either take part in the walk themselves or show up on Friday to donate toward the cause. Walk A Mile In Her Shoes will begin at Pioneer Square at 4 p.m. on Friday. It will head down Main St. before looping back down Hapnot St. to the starting point. Speakers will then address the issue of sexualized violence. Other scheduled participants include Creighton RCMP Sgt. Mark Svaren, Flin Flon Mayor George Fontaine and Phantom Lake golf pro John Irwin, among others. Walk A Mile In Her Shoes events are held across the globe, allowing men to take an active role in fighting gender violence. Participants in the local walk are required to raise at least $75 in pledges, with all funds going to the Women's Resource Centre. For more information, phone the centre at 681-3105.
