Jonathon Naylor Editor A man charged in the 2009 beating death of former Flin Flonner Natasha Moar has been ordered to stand trial. A preliminary hearing has found enough evidence to proceed with a trial for Leslie Grant McDonald. Last week, McDonald's case was moved from provincial court in Dauphin to federal court in the same community. He is scheduled to make his next appearance August 8, though the actual trial will begin at an undetermined date. McDonald has not entered a plea. He stands accused of manslaughter in the July 12, 2009 death of Moar in Crane River, Manitoba, a reserve northeast of Dauphin. Police say McDonald, 23 at the time of his arrest nearly two years ago, was the 20-year-old Moar's boyfriend. Close ties Moar lived in Flin Flon from the time she was an infant until she was 16. After moving, she retained close ties to the community and would come back to visit when she could. She was well liked during her years in Flin Flon, where she entered the 2004 Queen Mermaid Pageant and earned spending money working at McDonald's. Moar's death, caused by blunt force trauma, shocked and outraged the many friends she made in Flin Flon and across Manitoba. In the summer of 2009, over 100 family and friends gathered at Flinty's Park for a candle vigil in honour of her life.
