Man arrested, faces manslaughter charge after Cranberry Portage death

A Sherridon man is facing a manslaughter charge after the death of a 62-year-old man in Cranberry Portage last week.

Cranberry Portage RCMP were called to a report of an assault at a duplex on McLean Street around 8 p.m. August 7. When officers arrived, an injured man was found at the scene and emergency personnel were called. The man was taken to hospital, then flown to Winnipeg for further treatment. The man was pronounced dead August 10 due to his injuries.

RCMP arrested 41-year-old Jeremiah Colquhoun from Sherridon in relation to the incident. Colquhoun is facing a charge of manslaughter and has been remanded into custody. His first court date is scheduled in The Pas Provincial Court August 17. No further charges are being considered against the accused.

Cranberry Portage RCMP, along with the RCMP Manitoba Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, are investigating the incident. Officers from The Pas RCMP and the Chief Medical Examiner are assisting in the investigation.

Manitoba RCMP are not commenting further on exactly what happened, as the matter is still under investigation and Colquhoun’s case is before the courts.
