Four people arrested in uptown Flin Flon after one of them allegedly had a gun have been released without charge with no firearm turning up.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Bert Paquet said police received a report of a male with “an alleged gun” shortly after 6 pm on Thursday. When officers located him, he was with three other people.
“Based on the information known at the time, and for obvious public and officer safety, the group was arrested and detained by officers near the Friendship Centre,” Paquet told The Reminder.
He said it appears the allegations of a gun were unfounded. He said the alleged suspect was “quite cooperative” with officers. All four people have been released.
Asked whether charges could be laid in relation to police receiving bogus information, Paquet said that is a possibility “depending on a few different factors.”
He said his understanding was that the investigation into the incident remained ongoing as of early Friday afternoon.
