And you thought your Christmas tree had outlived its usefulness. Organizers of the upcoming sled dog races are asking people to drop off their trees alongside Ross Lake near Longmore Avenue. They will be used as markers for the races, which will be held on the lake this February. "You're going to chuck them, so you might as well chuck them by Ross Lake so we can use them," said Jason Mandes of the Flin Flon Indian-Metis Friendship Centre, one of the organizers. As of yesterday afternoon, a pile of about 30 trees had been transferred from living rooms to the lake side, bright tinsil still clinging to many branches and blowing in the winter wind. "All the trees we can get definitely help," commented Mandes. "They're very valuable." Organizers plan to begin making the trail for the races by the middle of January. The sled dog races will be held February 14 as part of the Bust the Winter Blues Festival in Flin Flon and Creighton.
