Here is a look at a some provincial stories that have made recent headlines: The reduced work-week program for provincial employees will continue for a third straight year, Finance Minister Greg Selinger announced. The program allows provincial workers to voluntarily take as many as 15 days off without pay, saving the government some cash. The program reportedly saved the province $2.5 million in salary costs in 2003-04. The province shouldn't be so quick to dip into the so-called rainy day fund, in the view of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is calling on the NDP government to use the fund more sparingly and to more clearly define its acceptable uses The Manitoba Metis Federation and the province's universities will split the cost of providing an additional $1 million in bursaries to Metis students. The applicable documents were signed last week. A weekend house fire claimed the life of a 32-year-old resident of the Shoal River reserve, located about 100 kilometres northeast of Swan River.
