One of Creighton's oldest _ and most delightful _ residents has marked a milestone. Phyllis McKenzie turned 90 years young last Friday, Aug. 16. The following afternoon, friends and family crowded the Creighton Seniors' Centre for her birthday party. 'I think just being active and having good friends and a lovely family,' she said when asked to explain her longevity and vibrancy. Born in Tisdale, Sask., Phyllis came to Flin Flon in 1943. Her husband, Doug, landed a job at HBM&S, now Hudbay. The couple raised four children _ Doug, Gordon, Sharon and Rick _ and became enamoured with the community. When Doug Sr. tragically passed away at 47, Phyllis was hired by HBM&S, joining the janitorial staff. She spent 27 years at the company before retiring. Today Phyllis stays active by playing cards and visiting friends. She may even hit the ice to curl this fall. Happy Birthday, Phyllis _ and many more to come!
